AccuCities goes the extra (Carbon Neutral) mile

AccuCities goes the extra Carbon Neutral mile and receives its Carbon Neutral Plus certification. We are an SME (with an emphasis on the S), but celebrating our 5th year of operation we can no longer call ourselves a start-up. And despite our youthful looks, we are now the grown-ups and have the means to take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously. In this first little step, we have offset all of our carbon footprint with enough margins to account for any growth in our carbon usage in 2022.

AccuCities® is the first 3D city models supplier with a fully certified offset of 100% of its carbon production. That means that on the road to net zero in the built environment, our customers and partners do not have to include our products and services in their carbon footprint assessments. As much as 40% of the UK’s carbon emissions come from the built environment. We can therefore make a significant impact in the overall greenhouse gases generation. And despite the most emissions being produced during the construction, everyone who works in the design and planning phase could find a way to make our processes more environmentally friendly.

Even during the certification process, the assessment via Carbon Footprint has offered us the opportunity to evaluate our processes and explore whether we can operate in a greener manner. The Carbon Footprint Assessment has been conducted in line with DEFRA Guidelines and GHG Protocol. Included in the assessment were our flights, grey fleet and rail travel, homeworking and other business activities involving generating carbon.

Our total emissions of 6.5 tonnes of CO2 were offset to the level of 9 tonnes of CO2 in tree planting activities in southeast England. On top of it, for every tree that we pledge, a tonne of carbon will also be saved through supporting the VCS Tree Buddying program. In this way, our emissions are immediately offset through high-quality internationally verified carbon offsets, in addition to the trees that are being planted on our behalf.
